Understanding Different Types of Lines
Lines are everywhere around us!
When lines meet or don't meet in special ways, we give them special names. Let's explore three important types: parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting lines.
Parallel Lines
Parallel lines are like train tracks - they run side by side and never meet, no matter how far they go!
In math we write: \( AB \parallel CD \)
Perpendicular Lines
Perpendicular lines cross each other at perfect right angles (90°), like the corners of your notebook!
In math we write: \( EF \perp GH \)
Intersecting Lines
Intersecting lines cross each other at any angle (except 90° - then they're perpendicular!).
Fun with Lines!

Look at these shapes. Can you find parallel and perpendicular lines?

Parent Tips 🌟
- Real-world examples: Point out parallel lines (railroad tracks, shelves), perpendicular lines (window panes, floor and wall), and intersecting lines (scissors, crossed branches) during everyday activities.
- Art connection: Have your child create artwork using only parallel, perpendicular, or intersecting lines to reinforce the concepts creatively.
- Angle awareness: Help your child notice that perpendicular lines form perfect "L" shapes (90° angles), while other intersecting lines make different angles.
