What is Division?
Division is like sharing or grouping things equally.
When we divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number, we're figuring out how many equal groups we can make or how many items will be in each group.
How to Divide Step by Step
1️⃣ Divide: See how many times the divisor fits into the first digit
2️⃣ Multiply: Multiply the divisor by your answer
3️⃣ Subtract: Subtract that from your number
4️⃣ Bring down: Bring down the next digit and repeat!
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: 48 ÷ 4
1. 4 goes into 4 1 time (4 × 1 = 4)
2. Subtract: 4 - 4 = 0
3. Bring down the 8
4. 4 goes into 8 2 times (4 × 2 = 8)
5. Subtract: 8 - 8 = 0
Answer: 12
Example 2: 63 ÷ 3
1. 3 goes into 6 2 times (3 × 2 = 6)
2. Subtract: 6 - 6 = 0
3. Bring down the 3
4. 3 goes into 3 1 time (3 × 1 = 3)
5. Subtract: 3 - 3 = 0
Answer: 21
Parent Tips 🌟
- Use real objects: Have your child practice with small items like candies or buttons to make division more concrete.
- Break it down: If a problem seems hard, encourage them to break the 2-digit number into tens and ones (e.g., 45 = 40 + 5).
- Make it fun: Create division stories ("If you have 36 cookies to share with 4 friends...") to show real-world applications.
