How Do We Do It?

First comes the line-up, then comes the math… 🎶

1. Line up the decimal points: Just like soldiers standing in a row, make sure all your decimal points are straight!
2. Add zeros if needed: If one number has fewer digits after the decimal, add some friendly zeros to help it match.
3. Add or subtract normally: Start from the right and move left, just like reading a book!
4. Bring down the decimal point: Don’t forget to let the decimal point take its place in the answer!

We want to solve: 4.5 + 2.37

Step 1: Line up the decimal points.
Write it like this:
    4.50
+ 2.37

Step 2: Add zeros if needed (we added a zero to 4.5). Now we’re ready!

Step 3: Add normally!
    4.50
+ 2.37
---------
    6.87
