Understanding Number Comparison
Comparing numbers helps us understand their size and order!
When we compare numbers, we use special symbols: > (greater than),
<< /strong> (less than), and = (equal to). Just like a balance scale, we can see
which number is heavier (bigger) or lighter (smaller).
How to Compare Numbers
1️⃣ Look at the hundreds place first - the number with more hundreds is bigger!
2️⃣ If hundreds are equal, check the tens place - more tens means bigger number!
3️⃣ If tens are equal too, look at the ones place - this will decide which is bigger!
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Compare These Numbers
Example 2: Place the Number on the Number Line
Drag the number to where you think it belongs between 0 and 1,000!
Parent Tips 🌟
- Make it a game: Write numbers on cards and have your child arrange them from smallest to largest. Add a timer for extra fun!
- Use real-world examples: Compare prices at the store ("Which costs more: $3.99 or $4.25?") or page numbers in books.
- Visual aids help: Draw number lines or use blocks to show how numbers compare in size. Hundreds charts are great tools too!
