Write Addition Sentences to Describe Pictures

Turning pictures into number stories with addition!

What Are Addition Sentences?

Addition sentences tell number stories about pictures!
When we look at pictures with groups of objects, we can count them and write addition sentences to show how many there are altogether. It's like telling a math story with numbers and symbols!

How to Write Addition Sentences

1️⃣ Count the first group of items

2️⃣ Count the second group of items

3️⃣ Add them together to make an addition sentence

Let's Practice Together!

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Make it real: Use household items like toys or snacks to create picture addition activities - "If we have 3 grapes and add 2 more, how many do we have?"
  • Art connection: Have your child draw their own pictures and then write addition sentences to describe them.
  • Story problems: Turn addition sentences into simple stories - "You had 2 cookies and I gave you 1 more. Now you have 3 cookies!"
