Understanding Math Properties
Math properties are like special rules that numbers follow when they play
together!
Just like how you follow rules when playing games with friends, numbers have their own special rules
too. These rules help us solve math problems in fun and easy ways.
Commutative Property
Numbers can swap places in addition and multiplication!
1️⃣ 2 + 3 = 5 and 3 + 2 = 5
2️⃣ 4 × 5 = 20 and 5 × 4 = 20
3️⃣ The order changes but the answer stays the same!
Associative Property
Grouping numbers differently gives the same answer!
1️⃣ (2 + 3) + 4 = 2 + (3 + 4)
2️⃣ (1 × 2) × 3 = 1 × (2 × 3)
3️⃣ The grouping changes but the answer stays the same!

Parent Tips 🌟
- Use everyday objects like toys or snacks to demonstrate properties - "If we have 2 cookies + 3 cookies, it's the same as 3 cookies + 2 cookies!"
- Play a "swap game" where your child rearranges numbers in addition and multiplication problems to see the properties in action.
- Create a properties song or rhyme to help remember these special math rules.
