Place Value Models up to 100

Understanding tens and ones with fun blocks!

What is Place Value?

Numbers are made of digits, and each digit has a special place!
In two-digit numbers, the first digit tells us how many tens we have, and the second digit tells us how many ones. We can show this with blocks - long sticks for tens and small cubes for ones!

How to Read Place Value

1️⃣ Look at the first digit - that's how many TENS we have

2️⃣ Look at the second digit - that's how many ONES we have

3️⃣ Add them together to make the whole number!

Let's Play with Place Value!

Example 1: Building Numbers with Blocks

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use household items: Count groups of 10 with items like buttons, coins, or cereal pieces to make place value hands-on.
  • Play place value games: Say a number and have your child show it with their fingers (left hand for tens, right for ones).
  • Connect to real life: Point out place value in prices, ages, or calendar dates to show its everyday importance.
