What Are Fractions?
Fractions are parts of a whole!
Imagine you have a delicious pizza or a yummy chocolate bar. When we divide it into equal parts, each
part is a fraction. Fractions help us share things fairly and understand how much we have.
Understanding Fractions in 3 Easy Steps
1️⃣ The top number (numerator) tells how many parts we have
2️⃣ The bottom number (denominator) tells how many equal parts the whole is divided into
3️⃣ The line in between means "out of" or "divided by"
Let's Play With Fractions!
Example 1: Pizza Party!
If you have a pizza cut into 4 equal slices and you eat 1 slice, what fraction of the pizza did you eat?
You ate 1/4 (one quarter) of the pizza! Great job!
Example 2: Candy Sharing
You have a chocolate bar divided into 8 equal pieces. You share 3 pieces with your friend. What fraction of the chocolate bar did you share?
You shared 3/8 (three eighths) of the chocolate bar! That's very generous!
